Classic Beef Lasagna

Ingredients

For the meat sauce

  • 500 g ground beef

  • 1 onion (chopped)

  • 3 garlic cloves (minced)

  • 2 cups tomato sauce

  • 1 cup crushed tomatoes

  • 1 tsp oregano

  • 1 tsp basil

  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the cheese mixture

  • 2 cups ricotta cheese

  • 1 egg

  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Other

  • 12 lasagna noodles

Instructions

  1. Cook noodles
    Boil lasagna noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.

  2. Prepare meat sauce
    In a pan cook ground beef over medium heat until browned.

  3. Add vegetables
    Add onion and garlic and cook for 3 minutes.

  4. Add tomatoes
    Stir in tomato sauce and crushed tomatoes.

  5. Season
    Add oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 15 minutes.

  6. Prepare cheese mixture
    In a bowl mix ricotta cheese, egg, and Parmesan.

  7. Assemble lasagna
    In a baking dish spread a layer of meat sauce.

  8. Add layers
    Add noodles, ricotta mixture, mozzarella cheese, and more sauce.

  9. Repeat layers
    Continue layering until ingredients are used.

  10. Bake
    Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 40 minutes.
